Susan Cassidy Wilhoit has been described as “Tennessee’s Visual Essayist.” She is a studio watercolor artist, living in Dayton, TN and has been painting landscapes, architecture and still life for nearly thirty years. She considered herself a regionalist, primarily interested in her Tennessee surroundings until 2004. She enjoyed local history and has found a unique ‘thumbprint’ of Tennessee’s past in each community she painted.

An exhibit of watercolors by Mrs. Wilhoit was displayed in the Rotunda of the Russell Senate Office Building, Capitol Hill, Washington, D. C. 2001. The exhibit entitled Tennessee, Across the Generations depicted scenes from counties all over Tennessee.

The Tennessee State Legislature honored Mrs. Wilhoit with a Resolution, January 2000, for the completion of the series commemorating Tennessee’s history through the portrayal of county landmarks. The Tennessee State Museum added the forty-eight watercolors to its collection. The first exhibition of the works was displayed in the War Memorial Building at Legislative Plaza, Nashville, from January 2000 through September 2001.

Susan recently completed all fifty US Capitols, The Magnificent Fifty in November of 2008. The series is currently available for exhibition through The National Capitol Heritage Foundation, Inc.
